This course is for all financial planners and especially those who want to advise clients who are considering furthering their education or who simply want to learn more about this topic.
Description
Audrey and Éric are both 40 years old and they have two young children. Their finances are solid. They are saving enough for their retirement, for their children’s education and to deal with unexpected expenses. But Éric does not like his job. He has changed jobs a few times, but nothing really clicks. He wants to reorient his career by taking a year-long, full-time study program. Audrey wants to support him, but she also wants to protect herself in case of separation, death or disability. The couple want to know how to plan for this return to school.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Explain various ways of financing a return to school.
- Explain the criteria that affect student financial aid.
- Explain the consequences of using the Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP).
- Identify the effects of a spouse’s return to school on the family tax burden.
- Recognize the difficulty of segregating spouses’ finances in a long-term relationship.
- Understand the limits of certain health risks that can be effectively transferred to an insurer.
- Explain the changes in disability insurance pricing related, for example, to telework and cannabis.
- Take into account the limits of various long-term financial projection models in the analysis of the Retirement situation.
- Take opportunity cost into account when assessing life insurance needs.
- In behavioural finance, understand the empathy deficit and its effects on financial planning.
