NPPF11A Ethical Principles, Standards and Managing Conflicts of Interest


This course is for all financial planners who want to learn more about ethics, the Financial Planning Practice Standards and how to manage risks related to conflicts of interest.

In this course, you will explore:

  • The eight principles of the Code of Ethics
  • The integrated personal financial planning (IPFP) approach and the ten practice standards of the IQPF and the FPSC
  • The principle of integration, the Situational Integration Framework and the IQPF–FPSC Competency Framework
  • The IQPF and FPSC Projection assumption guidelines
  • How to manage conflicts of interest related to incentives
  • How to use behavioural finance as a tool for perfecting your behaviour in relation to compliance with standards and professional practice and managing conflicts of interest

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Distinguish among and understand the ethical principles that guide the financial planning profession
  • Know the Standards adopted by the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF) and the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC), more specifically:
    • Be able to list the mandatory components of a contract
    • Verify your understanding of the ten steps of the financial planning approach
  • Understand the issues raised by the principle of integration
  • Recognize the value of the IQPF assumptions
  • Be more aware of the principles of managing conflicts of interest
